How to simplify matchmaking in Kodular?

Hi everyone :waving_hand:
I’ve started working on a new Kodular Extension and wanted to share the idea with the community and get some feedback while I’m developing it.
The project is basically a Matchmaking system for Kodular, using the Firebase Realtime Database that Kodular already provides.
The idea came from a simple situation:
Imagine having a normal XO game in Kodular and wanting to make it online.
Normally, we would have to build the whole system ourselves:
Find another available player
Create a room
Give both players the same Room ID
Handle waiting players
Detect when someone leaves
Handle disconnects and reconnects
Clean up old rooms
I’m trying to put all of this logic inside one Extension.
From the developer side, it could be as simple as:
MatchMaker.JoinQueue
Then, when another player is found:
MatchFound
RoomID
OpponentID
The developer can then use the Room ID and continue building the actual game.
For example:
XO Game
↓
MatchMaker.JoinQueue
↓
Find Opponent
↓
Create Room
↓
MatchFound
↓
Developer handles the game
And it doesn’t have to be only for games.
The same system could be used for:
Random chat
1v1 games
Chess / Checkers
Quiz games
Card games
Random user matching
Any application that needs to connect users together
Why Firebase Realtime Database?
One of the main things I want to keep is simplicity.
I don’t want developers to have to create another backend or configure a separate server just for matchmaking.
The Extension is being designed around the Firebase Realtime Database component already available in Kodular.
I’m also looking at using Firebase queue operations such as:
Append Value
Remove First
instead of having every device download and search through a large list of users.
This could make the system more efficient, especially when many users are waiting for a match.
Of course, I still need to test the real limits and performance before making any claims about large-scale usage.
What would the Extension handle?
The idea is for the Extension to handle things like:
Queue management
Finding opponents
Room creation
Room IDs
Player states
Timeout handling
Disconnect/reconnect
Opponent status
Match cleanup
while the developer focuses on the actual application or game.
I’m currently working on the project and trying to keep the API as simple as possible.
I’d really like to hear from the Kodular community:
Would you use an Extension like this?
And if you have experience with Firebase + multiplayer apps in Kodular, what problems or features do you think I should consider before going further?
Any feedback is welcome. :rocket:
