I need to send a text string to a printer device (to an ip & port address on same net).

Hi, welcome to the community !!!
That I know there is no extension or component to do that.
But you can used external app like Printer Share, i’m not 100% ( I don’t test ) maybe with Activity Starter you can open Printer Share and send the document you need to print to this app.
Search about Printer Share supported printers.
