The companion doesn’t have the SMS permissions due to Google Play policies.

So technically speaking, the only way to test any messaging wit the text component is building the app and deploying it (either device or emulator)?

Apologies for duplicating question. Does the RTFM rule apply here? 
To anyone interested, if you generate the apk and install it in the emulator, works perfectly and the permissions (SMS group) shows up in the apps setting.
