How to get block unstuck from the background

When you click on a block to move it in the IDE it sticks to the background and moves the entire canvas. The only way I have found to unstick it is to expand the block and move it. Is there another way??

That’s a bug in the blockly system. Luckily the work around you mentioned works, but it would be great if it was fixed.
