Why does companion ask permission from background

Today morning when, I was sharing the link to my friend to vote me for hackathon. A notification poped up that companion got your location in background.

So I have some questions to staff or whoever can answer it.

1. Does the companion works in Background ?
2. Even it works or not why did it need my location even when I am not using it. And even the companion was not in recent apps. (. See it in the video above )

I don’t know why you got that notification, the companion doesn’t run in the background and the only thing that I can think of that may need location permissions is the ads.
