Has something changed when i want to scan the qr code. When i use the companion my view is upside down and left to right is switched. It is very hard to aim for the qr code this way. It was always upside down but now with also left to right switched it is no fun anymore. 
Anybody else has the same behavior?

I think this behavior due to updating the qr code scanner layout.Which means updating the qr scanner layout of the companion ; as it’s made with kodular.
That issue didn’t happen with me before, may be it happens only on some devices.
May be you can try the qr scanner component. if it happens with you also then this is a problem with the qr scanner component update.
I have a LG Nexus 5X, Android 8.1
In my device the scanner looks fine.

Same effect. It is not happening in the App Inventor companion.
No problem with Oppo F11 Pro Android 9
there was an update which was related to scanner, the update made the scanner layout “Portrait” by default . maybe that’s what happening?

I’m used old smarphone to test my apk. Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, android 5.1.1 and I don’t have that problem…
