There are major fault lines starting from the east of Turkey and going west. The picture below is a map of Turkey showing this situation.
This creates sequential earthquakes called AfterShocks. After the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Turkey, the surrounding regions, especially the Hatay and Kahramanmaraş regions, were heavily damaged by aftershocks. The picture below will show you the severity of this very well.
Due to this sad event in Turkey, nearly 50 thousand people lost their lives.
