Let me put it this way.
Say we generalize all AD networks to an ePCM of 100z (z≠0, const. of proportionality)
Kodular needs x revenue per month to keep the services running. We’re not even considering profits; just the cost of Google Cloud Services.
Say that comes to y% of the total revenue.
Effectively, you need to pay (y*z) per month to be able to host and build just your own projects.
Now that we know that everyone needs to pay (y*z) to keep the platform running, we run into a dilemma.
How do we keep the platform free? It needs to be free, by its nature.
Free here means you have freedom to use the service in ways allowed by the terms of service and user agreement, abiding by local laws, without any explicit payment of money.
When using Kodular, you have no chance of losing money, by default. I say “by default”, because you could purchase commission removal on AD-free projects just for the fun of it, and you’d lose money in the process. If need be, simply donate to Kodular; that’s a noble cause.
So anyway you, the user, are now making apps. You start off as an economic liability to Kodular - you’re not contributing to the platform. Once you start showing ADs, Kodular can take y% commission, to fund the server. You’re now a productive citizen in the Kodular economy. Now say you go for the black market, draining the resources of the economy for your own personal good.
What happens? The server is strained at first. The team is forced to increase the y% commission, simply because less people are paying it. The “taxpayers” are affected by the outlaws.
But no, this isn’t a national economy (it’s larger, in fact, in many ways). Unlike a country where you could “go underground”, here our fate is decided beforehand: a permanent and irrefutable ban.
So, don’t try to benefit at the cost of others. Contribute if you earn: Kodular bears the cost till then.
Note: x is greater than the exact cost of running the server, because there needs to be enough capacity to incorporate new users (and Kodular gets a lot of them, all the time).
Stay at home, stay safe.
Happy Koding!
